Fairview Veterinary Hospital is never a quiet place! I knew I would have to take a small window of time when I could get it to visit the people there. Whilst sitting in the waiting area, I saw a few doggies and their owners come and go. The dogs instantly knew where they were going and started to get nervous, the owners lovingly trying to calm them down. All loving pet owners know this reaction from their little companions.
It brought me straight back to when I had pets and I remembered how much a part of one’s family these animals are! For all intents and purposes, a pet is a furry little child and their health is extremely important. So, it is little surprise that the word of a great Veterinary Hospital travels fast. I got chatting to a lovely lady and her little dog called Mickey. She explained to me how Ciaran had diagnosed poor Mikey correctly after years of her taking him to other Vets. In her words, Ciaran has literally saved Mikey’s life.
I also met another caring owner and furry friend who has been going to The Fairview Veterinary Hospital for many years and has become a little famous amongst the staff here for her lovable personality. The owner, Ramona Dwyer, very kindly allowed her adorable Bichon Frise, Rascal, to be in my photograph and I am sure you will agree she knows a good pose!
After spending some time in Canada, Ciaran’s parents decided to move back to Dublin in the early 1970s. His father, a vet, and his mother, a fashion designer, opened up a practice in Malahide first and were about to head off to work in Rhodesia in 1974 when they spotted #13 Fairview Strand for sale. From that day on a thriving and successful Veterinary Hospital grew. Ciaran took over the practice from his father in 1995 and has been there ever since. He has a wonderful team with him of nurses and surgeons who have worked for many years with him. Martina Condon, who is in the photo that will be exhibited is one of the nurses that invests a considerable amount of their time into the practice purely because of the love they all have for the animals.
For the many pet owners in Dublin 3 and further beyond, it is a blessing to have Ciaran and his team in such an accessible distance who take great care of their animals.
As Máirin de Burca says, ‘Successive cats and dogs of mine have been patients since I moved into the area 37 years ago and have always been treated with kindness and the best medical attention.’
